How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership in India

You can end your Prime membership at any time by visiting the Amazon website on your computer or directly through its app on your smartphone.

How to cancel Amazon Prime Membership

Amazon Prime membership cancellation is easy and takes just a few steps. Amazon offers a list of benefits to Prime members. These include free one-day and two-day deliveries, early access to regular sale events and Lighting Deals, and no minimum order requirement for free standard deliveries. Customers on Amazon Prime also get access to other services offered by the US company. These include Amazon Prime Music, Prime Video, and Prime Reading. Amazon also offers same-day deliveries to Prime members for eligible addresses.

Having said that, there could be some valid reasons that could lead you to cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. The one major reason is the price at which the Prime membership is available. It costs Rs. 329 for three months or Rs. 999 a year to Amazon customers in India. Although the membership is cheaper in the country when compared with the Prime membership in the US where you get Amazon Prime at a monthly charge of $12.99 (roughly Rs. 960) or annually at $119 (roughly Rs. 8,760), it may no longer make sense for you to continue.

One should note, if you choose to cancel your Amazon subscription in India, it will continue for the period you've already paid for — in other words, if you paid for an annual membership, after cancelling, it will continue till the end of the one-year period from the date you subscribed. Likewise, if you have opted for the quarterly membership, it will continue till the end of the three-month period from the date you subscribed. Thus, all cancelling a subscription does is prevent it from auto-renewing. Customers can, however, reach out to Amazon's customer care team from its app or website to ask for cancelling the Prime subscription instantly — forfeiting their remaining membership period.

You can end your Prime membership at any time by visiting the Amazon website on your computer or through its app on your smartphone. Here's how you can do that.

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership

Below are the steps that you can follow to cancelling your Amazon Prime membership. These steps are for cancelling the Prime membership through Amazon's site. You can, however, move to the next section to understand how you can cancel the Amazon Prime subscription from its app.

  1. Visit Amazon.in website and sign in with your account.
  2. Click on the hamburger menu button from the top-left side and select Your Account.
  3. Now, hit the Prime option.
  4. Click on the Manage membership link. A drop-down list will appear. Select Manage Membership.
  5. Hit the End membership option.
  6. Amazon will now show a screen to highlight how much you have saved in delivery fees since you have joined the membership. Click Continue to Cancel there.
  7. You will now see a screen showing the End on [expiry date of your Prime membership] button. This will essentially end your Prime membership once it reaches the renew date.

You can also get a reminder three days before your Prime membership renews by hitting the Remind me later button.

Amazon also shows an End Now button for the first three days of the Prime membership to let customers end their subscription on an immediate basis — if they aren't satisfied with the service. In this case, the company will provide refund for full membership or the remaining period if the customers used any of the bundled services such as Prime Video or Prime Music. The refund will be provided through a credit note.

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership using the app

You can follow the steps available below to end your Amazon Prime membership using its app on your smartphone.

  1. Go to the Amazon app on your phone.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu button from the bottom-right side.
  3. Now, tap Prime.
  4. Select the Manage My Membership next to the Prime title.
  5. Tap the Manage membership drop-down menu and then select the Manage Membership option.
  6. Hit End membership.
  7. Scroll down on the screen showing how much delivery fee you have saved since you have joined the membership.
  8. Tap Continue to Cancel and then the End on [expiry date of your Prime membership] button.

It is important to note that once you've cancelled your Prime membership, you will no longer be able to receive any Prime exclusive offers and services such as Prime Video and Prime Music.

How to reset a Mac: factory reset a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro

Knowing how to reset a Mac will come in handy someday. There will come a time when you need to upgrade to something new, after serving you well for years. And, whether you’re selling it on eBay, recycling it, or handing it down to someone else, you need to make sure you’ve reset it to factory conditions.

Mac

Resetting a Mac will wipe your files and reinstall macOS, scrubbing all of your files especially the important ones. The process, therefore, gets it ready for its new owner while ensuring that you’re not sharing any of your sensitive information. If that sounds to you like a complicated process, don’t worry. While it may not be as simple as pushing a few buttons, Apple has also done a great job of making it a relatively pain-free process.

Plus, you have us to see you through the whole thing. In this guide, we'll show you how to reset a Mac, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

To take full advantage of your new MacBook, check out our tutorials like how to take a screenshot on a Mac and how to update a MacBook. Looking for your next Mac? The new iMac (M1, 2021) will be out soon, and it already looks great.

1. Backup your files

You should already be backing up your MacBook on a regular basis either through Time Machine or another solution. Before resetting your Mac, make sure you save one final backup before moving forward. In the case of Time Machine, you can use these files to complete the set-up process on your new Mac.

2. Sign out of iCloud

Choose the Apple menu at the top left of the device. Select 'System Preferences' then click on your 'Apple ID'.  Choose 'Overview' in the sidebar, then click 'Sign Out'.

You will be asked whether to keep a copy of your iCloud data on this Mac. You can click 'Keep a Copy,' since you're erasing your Mac later in the reset process.

3. Enter recovery mode

Apple's Mac lineup is in a period of transition as the company shifts away from Intel-based processors. Entering recovery mode, an important step to reset a Mac, follows a different process on Intel-based machines and those with an Apple M1 co-processor or later.

How to recover MacBook Pro

To enter recovery mode on Intel machines: click on the Apple menu at the top left of the device, then choose 'Restart'. When the computer screen goes black, hold down the 'Command' + 'R' keys on your keyboard until the Apple logo appears. At this point, the computer will boot up and open the recovery mode.

On Macs with Apple co-processors including the MacBook Air (M1, 2020): it is actually a little bit easier to put the machine into recovery mode. On these machines, turn off your computer. Next, press and hold the power button on your keyboard. When the Apple logo appears, you'll see a message letting you know that by continuing to hold the power button, you'll access startup options.

After a few seconds, the text switches to 'Loading startup options'. Click Options > Continue to enter the macOS recovery mode.

4. Erase the machine

Regardless of whether you’re on an Intel-based or Apple silicone-based MacBook Air, it’s now time to finish the reset process using 'Disk Utility.' If asked, log into the next screen with administrator privileges.

From the macOS recovery screen, choose 'Disk Utility'. Choose 'Macintosh HD' on the left side of the screen. Click 'Erase'. In the dialogue box, you need to rename the drive and format. Keep the name 'Macintosh HD' and set the format to 'APFS' or 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.

Click 'Erase Volume Group'. If you don't see this button, click 'Erase' instead. Enter your 'Apple ID', if applicable.

If you have any other internal volumes in the sidebar, click the delete volume button that's marked with a '-'. Don't delete any volume named 'Macintosh HD' or 'Macintosh HD - Data'. Skip External and Disk Image sections also on the sidebar.

Quit Disk Utility to return to the utility window.

5. Reinstall macOS

Select 'Reinstall macOS' from the utility window in macOS Recovery, then choose 'Continue' and follow the installer's instructions. If the installer offers you the choice between installing on 'Macintosh HD' or 'Macintosh HD - Data', select 'Macintosh HD'.

Once the process is complete, you'll be asked to begin the Mac setup process. If you're selling or giving away your computer, type 'Command' + 'Q' to exit. Otherwise, continue to set up the computer.

Your MacBook Air has now been reset to factory settings.

Step By Step Guide To Unlock And Recover Files From Locked SD Card

SD cards are one of the most widely used data storage solutions, especially for avid photographers who heavily rely on cameras to earn their bread and butter. As someone who also uses a DSLR in the daily routine, I can tell that a locked SD card is no less than a nightmare. I have been in the situation a couple of times when I almost lost my data to a locked SD card. Thankfully, some research and technical know-how helped me retrieve the important data to save the day.

SD Card

If you have been in a similar situation, the following article will help you unlock your storage card to recover the 'Almost Lost' data. We have created a step-by-step guide to help you retrieve the files from a locked SD card. Let's get started.

Unlocking Your SD Card There can be more than one ways to unlock the locked SD card. You can manually unlock the SD card by simply sliding the small button on the edge. It is there on most SD cards and allows you to lock and unlock the storage media. An essential thing to note is that if the key is on lock, you cannot access, edit or delete the stored files.

You can also use a Windows PC to unlock an SD card. Below are the simple steps to unlock the SD card on a Windows PC.

• Connect the locked SD card to a windows PC. If you are using a micro-SD card, you can use an adapter to fit in the slot.

• Press "Windows" + R keys at once to run the command prompt as an administrator.

• Type the following commands and press enter key after each entry; diskpart, list disk, select disk< put here the disk number> then press enter.

• You will now see 'attributes disk clearonly' and press the enter key.

• If you see 'Disk Attributes Cleared Successfully', means that the disk is no longer protected and unlocked. The above-mentioned cmd commands take write protection off the SD card and unlock the storage card. ES File Explorer can also help you unlock the SD card, provided that it is password protected. Below are the steps that you can follow to unlock the storage card on your smartphone via the file manager app. Please note that the

• Download and install ES File Explorer on your Android phone.

• Insert the password-protected SD card on your Android device.

• Open the ES File Explorer application and go to the 'System Folder' directory.

• Look for MMCSTORE file and rename it to mmcstore.txt.

• Open the file and note down the password.

• Now try accessing the memory card and enter the password where it says- remove the memory card password. How to Recover Files from the Unlocked SD Card Once you have successfully unlocked your SD card, you would need a file recovery tool to retrieve your files. We tried some of the most popular free to use data recovery tools available online. The free versions are mostly very restrictive and not very efficient. Some popular names include- EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Free, Disk Drill, Stellar Data Recovery, Remo Recover and R-Studio. If you are a professional and cannot risk any damage to your precious data stored but not accessible, hidden or lost data on your SD card, you must invest in a paid recovery tool. While these tools charge money, they are quite effective in restoring deleted files and folders. Some of the tried and tested tools include- WondershareRecoverit, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro, Crash Plan, Wise Data Recovery, and Mini Tool Data Recovery.

Below are the steps to help you recover your files from the unlocked memory card via the WondershareRecoverit tool on a Windows PC.

• Download and install WondershareRecoverit on your device by visiting Wondershare's website.

• Launch the app and insert your SD card on your PC.

• Select your SD card on the main menu. A quick scan will run, and the software will display all files stored on the card. Choose the files you want to recover and click on recover to restore photos from the SD card with other necessary materials.

• Done If you are a beginner and don't know much about data recovery tools, the WondershareRecoverit is a good option to restore your files from an SD card.

It is simple to use and, has a fast scanning and recovery process and allows you to recover all types of files from your SD card.

If any of the above-mentioned processes fail to unlock and restore your SD card's data, you are mostly left with formatting it to at least start using it afresh. This will certainly wipe off the data stored but will at least make the card usable for future use.

To format the SD card, simply right-click on the storage card in 'My computer' and select format. Once you confirm the action, the system will take a short while to delete all files and repair the media storage device to let you use it as a new card to store your files.

How to speed up Windows 10

Knowing how to speed up Windows 10 is a skill all Windows 10 users should know. Although Windows 10 may be the most efficiently-coded operating system from Microsoft, there will still come a time when it could slow down. Those applications and features already require large amounts of system resources without bloatware and temporary files adding to them.

Don’t worry if you’re not computer-savvy. You don’t need to be an expert to figure out how to speed up Windows 10 as it really isn’t as complicated as it sounds. And, it’s worth doing as it will help put your computer back in tip-top shape and working optimally. Who, after all, enjoys using a PC when it’s experiencing a slowdown?

Even with Windows 10’s latest iteration coming built-in with extremely useful features to improve overall efficiency, your computer will require a bit of help with time and consistent use. We’re here to teach you how to speed up Windows 10, from defragging and clearing out unwanted programs to disabling superfluous special effects and performing hardware upgrades.

It may also be valuable to try booting your computer in Safe Mode so here's how to start Windows 10 in Safe Mode. Meanwhile, if you've just gotten your copy of the OS and are trying to figure out how to get it started, find out how to activate Windows 10.

Here are the tips/ tricks to speed up your PC

1. Restart your PC

While this may seem an obvious step, many users keep their machines running for weeks at a time. Windows 10 will automatically put the display to sleep, but any processes which have previously been started will continue. These can accumulate over time and slow down your computer.

You can fix this issue by shutting down your PC each day once you have finished using it, by clicking on the Windows button and selecting the 'Power' button.

Make sure to close any running programs and save your work before you do so. If your PC has slowed down to the extent that you can't display the Windows menu, manually hold down the Power button until the computer is fully powered off.

2. Update, Update, Update

Microsoft continually releases updates for Windows 10 which are designed to fix common bugs that reduce system performance. Some of these are fairly minor whereas others make significant changes to your system, maximizing efficiency.

If machine performance is lagging, open the Windows menu and type 'Update' in the search bar and click 'Check for Updates' to access your settings.

If a major update is available, then make sure to save and back up your personal data before continuing. Your PC may need to restart several times to apply all available updates. If it's been a while since your last update, make sure to click 'Check for Updates' again after restarting to make sure no more are available.

3. Check startup apps

PCs can become bogged down by the sheer number of running processes. This is often because many installers will instruct Windows to run their programs immediately after you log in, slowing down system speed.

To check your startup programs, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del), then click the 'Startup' tab. Pay close attention to the 'Startup Impact' values for each program e.g. 'High' as this is a good way to spot apps that are likely to slow your system down.

To prevent a program from launching on login just right-click and choose 'Disable'.

4. Run Disk Cleanup

Disk Cleanup is an extraordinarily built-in Windows utility. You can use it to clear out temporary files which accumulate on your machine, such as image thumbnails, downloaded program files and offline webpages.

Click the Windows menu and type 'Disk Cleanup' in the search bar to get started. The utility will offer you a choice of files to remove. Simply mark the check box next to each option. Click 'Clean up system Files' to begin. Disk Cleanup will calculate the amount of space you will save.

This is also a good opportunity to delete any files on your hard drive which you no longer need. An easy place to start is your 'Downloads' folder.

5. Remove unused software

Many PC vendors ship their machines with bundled third party software, which due to its large size and unnecessary nature is sometimes referred to as 'Bloatware'. Many computer users also install software for a specific purpose and never use it again e.g. designing a newsletter.

Redundant programs take up space on your hard drive and can reduce performance. To check your installed apps go to 'Control Panel'>'Programs'>'Programs and Features'>'Uninstall a Program'.

Right-click on any programs you no longer need and select 'Uninstall'. Windows 10 will ask for permission to make changes to your system. Click 'Yes' to continue.

6. Disable special effects

Windows 10 is rather heavy on the special effects side. By default Windows and other features are programmed to fade in and fade out of view. Other resource-intensive but unnecessary features include translucency and animations.

To take your PC back to basics, open the Windows menu and search for 'System', then go to 'Advanced Settings' tab and select 'Performance Settings'.

Under the 'Visual Effects' tab, click the radio button for 'Custom'. From here, you can uncheck the tick boxes next to any visual affects you want to disable. Click 'Apply' to confirm your changes.

7. Disable transparency effects

Besides making heavy use of your system resources to display features like animation, Windows 10 also employs transparency effects for certain features such as the task menu. This seemingly light and simple effect is actually quite complicated to draw, as the system needs to calculate the same plane twice.

To disable transparency effects, open the Windows menu and type 'Make Start, taskbar and Action Center transparent'. This will pull up the 'Color' Settings. From here you can choose to switch off transparency.

You can also change the default app mode here between 'Light' and 'Dark'. This won't affect your system speed, but may make your Desktop easier on the eye.

8. Upgrade your RAM

Your PC's overall speed can be hugely improved by increasing the amount of virtual memory (RAM). Windows 10 requires a minimum of 4GB to run smoothly, although this does not take into account resource hungry applications such as video games.

The easiest solution to this is to install more RAM. Your PC has a certain number of RAM 'slots' into which you can insert chips. To determine the type of memory your machine uses, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del), then click 'Performance'. The system will display any memory slots in use as well as the type use e.g. DDR4.

Installing new RAM chips is quite simple. If you do it yourself use an anti-static wrist strap to prevent damage to delicate components. Alternatively many PC repair stores will be happy to do the hardware upgrade for you, for a small fee.

9. Use an SSD

SSDs (Solid State Drives) use Flash memory, the same kind found in USB sticks. They allow for much faster access and writing times then traditional mechanical hard drives which use magnetized disks.

SSDs do cost much more per GB than regular hard drives, but if you're are willing to pay the cost, you'll notice a huge improvement in boot time, files access times and overall system responsiveness.

If you want to buy an SSD to install yourself make sure you have the correct size for your machine (2.5" for portable devices, 3,5" for desktop machines). You can use free software such a Clonezilla to copy content form your current hard disk to your new SSD. See our guide on how to clone your hared drive with Clonezilla.

10. Run System Maintenance

Windows 10 has a built-in utility which performs routine system maintenance tasks such as defragmenting the hard drive, scanning for updates, and checking for malware.

These tasks usually run in the background while your PC is idle but if you have noticed an issue with system performance you can run maintenance manually if you wish.

To get started, open Control Panel, select 'System and Security' then choose 'Security and Maintenance'. Click the arrow to expand the maintenance options. From here you can select 'Start Maintenance'. Close and save any open files before going ahead.
